In a remarkable gesture of compassion and community service, the Special Adviser on Central Internal Audit to the Lagos State Governor, Dr. (Mrs.) Oyeyemi Ayoola, FCA, has extended support to about 500 widows and elderly citizens in the Mushin and Odi-Olowo areas of the State.
The empowerment outreach, held on Saturday in Mushin, saw the distribution of essential food items and cash gifts to beneficiaries drawn from various wards across Mushin and Odiolowo local government.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Ayoola said the initiative was inspired by her desire to identify with members of her constituency who have remained steadfast in their support for the Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu administration over the past six years and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the past two years.
“This is not about politics; it’s about humanity, Our elders have sacrificed so much for the growth of our society, They deserve care, love, and attention. This gesture is simply a way of appreciating them and letting them know they are not forgotten,” Dr. Ayoola added.
She emphasized that giving back to the community remains a core value of President Bola Tinubu and Governor Sanwo-Olu administrations, which continues to prioritize the welfare and well-being of Nigerians and Lagosians, particularly widows, the elderly, and other vulnerable groups.
Dr. Ayoola clarified that the initiative was driven by gratitude and empathy. She expressed appreciation to the senior citizens and widows for their unwavering support to the APC led government even in their old age and despite personal challenges.
She urged continued cooperation with both the Federal and State Governments, assuring that the nation’s economy and currency are on the path of recovery with the right collective attitude and patience.
“Government alone cannot do everything or meet all expectations. Those of us who are privileged must be our brothers’ keepers, it’s a shared responsibility,” she added.
Also speaking at the event, Senator Ganiyu Olanrewaju Solomon, member of the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC) and Apex Leader in Mushin, Ajina, and Odi-Olowo Ojuwoye, commended Dr. Ayoola for her consistent contributions to community development.
He noted that her philanthropic gestures over the years have complemented the State Government’s ongoing social intervention programmes aimed at reducing poverty and promoting inclusiveness.
“It’s not easy to take from one’s personal resources to support others. When individuals step up like this, we must acknowledge and celebrate them,” Senator Solomon stated, while encouraging other public servants, business leaders, and philanthropists to emulate her example.
Beneficiaries of the outreach expressed heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Ayoola and the Sanwo-Olu administration for remembering the elderly and widows, describing the gesture as timely and impactful.
