‎‎Brachytherapy Summit 4.0 Drives Collaboration Towards Better Cancer Treatment Outcomes

‎The fourth edition of the Brachytherapy Summit, organized by MedServe in collaboration with the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) Cancer Centre, was successfully held under the theme, “Precision and Personalized Brachytherapy: Advancing Innovation, Access and Outcomes.” The summit brought together leading oncology experts, policymakers, healthcare professionals, researchers, and stakeholders committed to improving cancer care and treatment outcomes through advanced brachytherapy techniques.

‎The summit was convened by Dr Bolanle Adegboyega Consultant Clinical and Radiation Oncologist, whose dedication to advancing cancer treatment and improving patient outcomes continues to drive impactful conversations and innovations in oncology practice.

‎A major focus of the summit was the sub-theme, “WHO Cervical Cancer Elimination Initiative,” which highlighted global and local efforts aimed at eliminating cervical cancer through prevention, early detection, effective treatment, and improved access to life-saving technologies such as brachytherapy.

‎The summit featured distinguished local and international speakers who shared cutting-edge research, clinical experiences, and emerging innovations in cancer care. Among the keynote speakers was  Dr Roisin O Cearbhaill renowned Gynecologic Medical Oncologist and Cellular Therapist from Memorial SOAN , who delivered insightful presentations on advancements in gynecologic oncology and personalized treatment approaches for women with cancer.

‎Also speaking was  Professor of Radiation Oncology  Prof. Miriyala Raviteja from India. He highlighted innovative brachytherapy techniques, precision-based treatment planning, and strategies for expanding access to quality cancer care in low- and middle-income countries.

‎Other notable speakers included  and several experts who addressed contemporary developments in radiation oncology, patient-centered care, and multidisciplinary cancer management. ‎The summit received strong support from government agencies and healthcare institutions.

‎The Lagos State Commissioner for Health Prof. Akin Abayomi emphasized the government’s commitment to improving cancer care infrastructure and increasing access to advanced treatment modalities. He highlighted ongoing investments in healthcare systems, early cancer detection programs, and the importance of brachytherapy in reducing cervical cancer-related mortality in Nigeria.

‎Representing the Nigerian Atomic Energy Commission ( NAEC) Representative; Energy Justus Salu discussed the critical role of nuclear technology and radiation sciences in strengthening cancer treatment services across the country.

‎The Chief Medical Director of Lagos University Teaching Hospital Prof Wasiu Adeyemo represented by Prof Ojewola, who reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to supporting innovation, research, and capacity building in oncology practice.

‎Also present was the President of Association of Radiation and Clinical Oncologist of Nigeria ( ARCON) ; Prof Abubakar Bello , who commended the organizers for creating a platform that fosters collaboration, professional development, and knowledge exchange among Oncologist specialist.

‎The Brachytherapy Summit 4.0 served as a significant platform for advancing discussions on precision medicine, personalized cancer treatment, and equitable access to brachytherapy services. Participants emphasized the urgent need for stronger partnerships, increased investment in cancer care infrastructure, workforce development, and policy support to achieve the goals of the WHO Cervical Cancer Elimination Initiative.

‎The summit concluded with a renewed commitment among stakeholders to leverage innovation, research, and collaboration to improve cancer treatment outcomes and enhance the quality of life for patients across Nigeria and beyond.
