The Nigerian Online Media Alliance (NOMA), a coalition of digital media publishers and journalists committed to promoting ethical journalism, media development, and impactful public advocacy across Nigeria, in collaboration with ISSUP Nigeria Chapter, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), and the Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital, Yaba, Lagos, has announced Dr. Olajumoke M. Koyejo as one of the distinguished speakers at her upcoming Media Practitioners’ Capacity Building Programme on Responsible Reporting and Substance Abuse Prevention.
Dr. Koyejo is a Consultant Psychiatrist and Addiction Medicine Specialist with over two decades of clinical and public health experience in mental health, substance use prevention, treatment, and recovery systems. She currently works at the Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital, Yaba, Lagos, where she co-chairs the Addiction Prevention, Treatment and Recovery Unit, leading evidence-based interventions for individuals affected by substance use disorders.
As President of the ISSUP Nigeria Chapter, she has been instrumental in strengthening Nigeria’s addiction prevention workforce, facilitating advanced training programmes for more than 1,000 addiction professionals through the Colombo Plan Drug Advisory Programme (DAP). Her work has contributed significantly to building a skilled national network of practitioners in prevention, treatment, and recovery support services.

A leading innovator in digital mental health, Dr. Koyejo also co-led the development of “VibeCheck,” Nigeria’s first Artificial Intelligence-powered tool for addiction screening, brief intervention, and referral. The innovation reflects her commitment to integrating technology into public health solutions for improved accessibility and early intervention.
She is a Herbert H. Humphrey Fellow (Fulbright Scholar) at Virginia Commonwealth University and holds an MBChB from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, as well as an MPH and MBA from the University of Lagos. She has also completed executive leadership training at the Blavatnik School of Government, University of Oxford; University of Washington; and the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).
At the forthcoming training, Dr. Koyejo will deliver expert insights on substance use prevention, addiction treatment systems, recovery pathways, and the critical role of responsible media reporting in reducing stigma and strengthening public health responses in Nigeria.
Participants will gain practical knowledge on how ethical journalism can influence behavioural change, improve public understanding of addiction, and support national efforts toward a healthier, drug-free society.
