CONCERNED PEOPLES ASSEMBLY ALLEGED THREAT TO LIFE OF MEMBERS

The Concerned Peoples Assembly in the Southeast and South-South has raised alarm over the indiscriminate harassment and arrest of their members in the Southeast and parts of the South- South geopolitical zone in Nigeria by security agents.
The Chairman of the Concerned Peoples Assembly, Chief Erastus Okpala raised the alarm on behalf of the group after an emergency meeting held in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State Capital while addressing a press conference.
Chief Erastus Okpala informed that security agents early this year clampdown on their members particularly a popular business man and pharmacist Ikechwukwu Nnaemedo Onyegbuna based in Yenagoa, Capital of Bayelsa State over allegations of his membership of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) and the Eastern Security Network (ESN).
The Concerned Peoples Assembly Chairman stated that Ikechwukwu Nnaemedo Onyegbuna has lived in Bayelsa State for many years and have been conducting legitimate business without involving in movement for Biafra and any other secessionist agitation.
He stated that of recent some security agents are hounding Ikechwukwu Nnaemedo Onyegbuna and have made life unbearable for him to the extent that he can no longer move freely to conduct his thriving business which has been his source of livelihood.
According to Chief Erastus Okpala, Ikechwukwu Nnaemedo Onyegbuna has gone into hiding because of the constant harassment, intimidation and threat to his life by security agents of the Federal Government.
He informed that the ordeal of Ikechwukwu Nnaemedo Onyegbuna in the hands of security operatives is a fall out of the recent crisis in Orlu in Imo State and Oyigbo and the in Rivers State where detachment of soldiers and crack units of the Nigerian Police were deployed to flush out cells of IPOB and Eastern Security Network .
Chief Erastus Okpala advised security agents to be thorough and professional in going after the real criminals and avoid the onslaught on innocent citizens like Ikechwukwu Nnaemedo Onyegbuna.
