The Commandant, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Lagos State Command, Commandant Eweka Douglas Okoro has directed the Agro – Rangers Unit of the Command to embark on optimal public enlightenment and sensitization of the functions of the unit to farmers, herders and the relevant stakeholders concerned with the growth and development of agro – ecomomy in the state.
The new Head of the AGRO RANGERS UNIT in the Command, Deputy Commandant of Corps ( DCC ) Muslimah Oluwakemi Malomo, in the early hours of today, Tuesday, 17th August, 2021, responded proactively, with her gallant and combat ready team to sensitize farmers and herders on the need to embrace peace and avoid crisis at a training ( APPEALS project ) in Ikorodu Local Government, in Lagos State.
The new sheriff of the AGRO – RANGERS UNIT in Lagos State Command, Deputy Commandant Muslimah Malomo in her address at the farmers / herders workshop under the APPEALS project in Ikorodu Local Government Area, today, said that the unit was set up by the Corps, in line with the Federal Government’s strategies to resolve insecurity issues amongst farmers and herders in the nation. She also sensitized the farmers / herders extensively on the need for them to co – exist peacefully and amicably within the communities where they are found. She said that the Federal Government is interested in their peaceful co-existence and not crisis and clashes that will not profit the nation.
More so, Deputy Commandant Muslimah also reiterated that the unit is open to calls from farmers and herders and she implored them to cooperate with the Command in order to ensure a peaceful and serene environment devoid of all forms of crimes and criminalities. She implored them to always help the Command with valuable information that will be useful in averting and preventing unnecessary and unwarranted forms of insecurities in the state.
However, she said that the full weight of the law will also be used to deal with any perpetrator of crime and criminality amongst the farmers and herders. ‘This is because to before warned is to before harmed,’ according to the Deputy Commandant. ‘Therefore, we must be ready to work together to achieve the larger peace we all desire for our nation,’ she said.
Finally, Commandant Eweka Okoro re-assures the farmers and herders in Lagos State of maximum security and optimal protection of lives and property. He said that the commitment of the Command remains unflinching in ensuring that cases such as, cattle rustling, farmer herder clashes, banditry and kidnapping, amongst others are not allowed to raise their ugly heads in Lagos state. He said that the protection of the lives and property of all citizens and not only farmers and herders are important to us.
