HALOGEN ACADEMY GIVES TRAVEL ADVISORY ON SECURITY & SAFETY ON THE ROAD IN LAGOS, TRAFFIC
By Dayo Anthony Borderless media
Halogen Academy a leading security organization in Nigeria with much concern for the lives and properties of Nigerians and especially Lagosians gave it’s monthly safety advice in a statement issue recently that traffic robberies have continued to be a major problem across Lagos, particularly during rush-hour traffic in busy areas such as Ojota, CMS, Costain Bridge, Maryland, Gbagada, Mile 2, Mushin, Orile, Oshodi Bridge. In April, the police said it had deployed additional 1,000 officers around the metropolis to stem the tide of traffic robberies. At least 127 suspects had been arrested for attacking Lagosians in traffic between March and June, However, in practicing personal security, Academy Halogen suggests that it is imperative to manage the fear of crime and not just the crime itself.
This requires having a “security think” (mindset), and it is demonstrated by self-defense capabilities, profiling capacities and personal security effort. A “smash and grab” is a particular form of attack that involves smashing the window of a car in slow moving traffic or at a traffic light, grab valuables, and then making a quick getaway.
“Smash and grab” raids can occur in many scenarios, both in broad daylight and at night, and the perpetrators can range from experienced thieves to impulsive vandals harmed or unharmed. The violent smashing of the window at the passenger side places the motorist in a few moments of silent paralysis. Victims most likely become traumatized and feel victimized for quite some time.
The thieves are usually after valuables which they can easily identify from outside the vehicle and sell as easily
once removed from the possession of the motorists. Items targeted usually include: purses, handbags and wallets, laptop bags, briefcases and backpacks, shopping bags, cell phones, loose change etc.
The criminals also tend to target single drivers with belongings on the passenger seat, female drivers. In this month security report Halogen enjoined Lagosians to be careful in movement in there enviros.
