Israeli Passengers Subdue Attacker, Help Save 174 Lives Aboard Flydubai Flight

By Temidayo Anthony

Passengers aboard a Flydubai flight have been praised for their bravery after reportedly overpowering an attacker who stormed the cockpit, leaving the captain seriously wounded.

According to accounts from passengers aboard Flight FZ1073, the aircraft plunged dangerously after the captain sustained multiple stab wounds during the attack.

As the injured captain managed to unlock the cockpit door, Israeli passenger Tzvika Manes and others rushed forward to confront the attacker. Manes said he grabbed the suspect in a chokehold and pulled him away from the cockpit, while other passengers joined the struggle.

With no handcuffs available, the passengers improvised by using cables from the aircraft’s entertainment headphones to restrain the attacker.

However, the danger was far from over, as the aircraft was still descending. Two additional Flydubai pilots travelling as passengers were reportedly alerted and urged to take control of the plane. Meanwhile, a dentist aboard the flight reportedly provided emergency treatment to the wounded captain as other passengers secured the cockpit area.

The combined efforts of the passengers and the replacement pilots helped avert a possible disaster, with all 174 passengers, including 27 children, reportedly arriving safely in Israel.

The incident has drawn comparisons with the actions of passengers aboard United Airlines Flight 93 during the September 11, 2001 attacks, highlighting the extraordinary courage of civilians confronted with life-threatening situations.
