Lagos NSCDC Advocates Security Education, Collective Responsibility And Vigilance as ways To End Violent Attacks On Schools

The Quarterly Public Relations (PR) Clinic organised by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Lagos State Command’s Public Relations Unit (PRU), is one of its public engagement mechanisms, innovated to consistently build the Corps’ image, drive public awareness, and enhance crisis communication management in line with the vision, mission statement and core values established by its Commandant General, Professor Ahmed Abubakar Audi, PhD, mni, OFR, to position the Corps as one of the best security agencies in Africa and across the world.
The State Commandant, NSCDC Lagos State Command, Mr. Adedotun Keshinro, fnarc; Professor Waziri Adisa, Professor of Criminology, Department of Sociology, University of Lagos; Dr. Cynthia Gregg, CEO/MD, Safety Signatures Ltd. and Gulf Flower Schools; Comrade Akintoye Hassan, Lagos State Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT); Mr. Dipo Kehinde, a veteran and renowned journalist; Dr. Adebowale Adeagbo, Director, Centre of Excellence, Halogen Group; and panelists/interventionists from relevant agencies such as the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS), Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Federal Fire Service (FFS), Lagos State School-Based Management Committee, Halogen Security Ltd., SEED Foundation, Civil Society Action Coalition on Education for All (CSACEFA) Lagos, Miss Kolurejo Best, a Basic Six pupil of Anuoluwa Primary School, and many others were the lead speakers at the just-concluded 7th Edition of the NSCDC Lagos Public Relations Clinic held on Wednesday, 15th July, 2026.
The representative of the NSCDC Lagos State Commandant, DCC Jimoh Sulaiman, who delivered the Commandant’s keynote address, reiterated the role of the NSCDC in securing and safeguarding schools, schoolchildren, teachers, educational assets and host communities.

Speaking on the theme, “Security and Safety of Schools in Lagos: The Roles of Government, NSCDC and Stakeholders,” DCC Jimoh emphasised the significance of security education in schools as a means of safeguarding them against violent extremism, kidnapping, abduction and other forms of attacks.
He charged all stakeholders to embrace collective responsibility, vigilance and professionalism in order to put an end to the violent attacks and tragic experiences being witnessed by schoolchildren in areas where such attacks have occurred across the nation.
The event also featured distinguished guest lecturers, Professor Waziri Adisa and Dr. Cynthia Gregg, who presented papers on the theme, while Comrade Akintoye Hassan served as the Lead Discussant and further enriched the discourse.
One of the lead speakers, Professor Waziri Adisa, advocated a whole-of-society approach as part of the solutions to ensuring the safety of schools across the nation, particularly in Lagos State.
Professor Adisa affirmed that security in schools is essential because it guarantees learning continuity, builds public confidence, promotes social stability and supports national development.
Dr. Cynthia Gregg called for a more secure and safer environment for schoolchildren across the state in order to sustain educational growth and development.
She commended the proactive efforts of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Lagos State Command, in ensuring the security and safety of schools in Lagos. However, she called for stronger inter-agency collaboration, continuous training and improved capacity building to enhance performance.
The Lead Discussant, Comrade Akintoye Hassan, called for a renewed approach to school security and safety and expressed his appreciation for the innovative initiatives of the NSCDC Lagos State Command.
He also advocated stronger collaboration among all stakeholders to put an end to violent attacks on schools, educational assets, schoolchildren and host communities.
The event was rounded off with a comprehensive summary delivered by the moderator, Mr. Dipo Kehinde, after a robust technical panel session featuring Dr. Cynthia Gregg; SRC Elizabeth Jayeola, Public Education Officer, FRSC Lagos Sector Command; SC Ada Agada of the Special Female Squad, NSCDC Lagos State Command; and Miss Kolurejo Best, a Basic Six pupil of Anuoluwapo Primary School.
Since its inauguration in June 2024, the NSCDC Lagos Public Relations Clinic has continued to educate and strengthen the capacity of NSCDC personnel, other security agencies and members of the public on thematic issues relating to the Corps’ mandate, emerging societal challenges, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Code of Conduct, policy directives and extant laws of the land.
