The State Commandant of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Anambra State Command,Mr. Everestus Chimezie Obiyo JP* today 2nd of November,2021 received in audience members of Gender Perspective and Social Development Centre, National Democratic Institute, Vote Not Fight group and Persons with Disabilities ( PWDs) in his office at the State Command Headquarters Awka.

Mrs Chioma Eze who led the Gender Perspective and Social Development Centre in her speech intimated the State Commandant of the objective of the visit which was to seek for partnership with NSCDC towards stoping violence against women in politics (VAWIP) during the forthcoming gubernatorial election in the State.

She appealed for adequate protection of their volunteers who had been trained to monitor and observe the Election while soliciting that Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) are adequately protected to exercise their franchise.

Responding, the State Commandant reiterated the Command’s commitment to sustaining priority protection for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) to participate fully in the election.

He appreciated the Vote not Fight group for increasing the positive participation of youths by promoting peaceful and constructive engagement with their peers that election should not be a do-or-die affair.

The visit ended with both the NSCDC and NGOs pledging to reduce to the barest minimum the rising issues of sexual and gender – based violence against women in Politics.
