SHOCKING ANGLES EMERGE ON COLLAPSED 21-STOREY BUILDING IN LAGOS AS SANWO-OLU ORDERS PROBE

Shocking facts have begun emerging on the 21-storey building that collapsed in highbrow Ikoyi, Lagos, sending many to their untimely graves and many others badly injured. Unique Hitz just learnt that even the contractor that was initially handling the project had to pull out when he could no longer guarantee what was going on. Below is his letter announcing his withdrawal:
The Lagos State Government, meanwhile, has called for calm over the sad incident, it would be recalled, occurred on Monday, November 1, 2021.
Lagos Rescue Unit (LRU), Lagos State Fire Service and Lagos State Ambulance Services (LASAMBUS), at the time of writing this, had moved to the site, battling to save the lives of those under the rubble. Three persons have so far been rescued, even as the operations to save more lives continue.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, expectedly, has ordered an investigation into the incident.
The Deputy Governor, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, hours later, visited the site in the company of other officials, including the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr. Idris Salako; Commissioner for Special Duties, Mr. Bamgbose- Martins; Special Adviser on Urban Development, Mr. Ganiyu Adele Ayuba; Special Adviser, GIS and Physical Planning, Dr. Olajide Babatunde; Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, Mrs. Abiola Kosegbe as well as General Manager, LASEMA Dr. Femi Oke-Osanyintolu.
The Deputy Governor, after an on-the-spot assessment, directed security agents to cordon off the site to facilitate rescue efforts. And also guard against tampering with any vital evidence.
The General Manager of the Lagos State Building Control Agency, Arch. Gbolahan Oki, was also at the scene assessing the site for any likely damage to the surrounding structures.
A report of the investigations will be made public in due course, said Gbenga Omotoso, Honourable Commissioner, Information & Strategy, Lagos State.
Condolence messages have been going to families that lost their loved ones. Same with condemnation of the owner’s carelessness and again, the government’s shirking of their responsibility.
